You've booked your family session, now what?
This guide will help your prepare for your session with me!
What should you wear? In the end, it's your session and you should wear what you want and feel most comfortable in. Also, you want to wear something that fits the vibe and vision that you have for your family photos.
-Matching: You don't need to all match, you just need to compliment each other. You don't have to all wear the same color. Wear colors that compliment each other but don't clash.
-Patterns: I think that patterns and several different patterns can be distracting and can take away from the most important part of the picture, which is you
-Depending on your style, muted neutral colors are the most flattering
-Accessories: Accessories can add layers and texture to add interest such as hats, scarves, jewelry, blankets, headbands, etc.
-Avoid shirts with logos
-Avoid neon colors
What to bring to the session?
If you have kids that are younger, bring things that will make them happy. It is not uncommon for little ones to get upset because they are in a new area, doing something a little weird, and they don't know me. So, bring toys or a treat that brings them joy. I am not against bribery. Tell your kiddos, "If you are super good and smile for the photos, we can stop by your favorite ice cream place on the way home." You want this to be a good experience for them because this won't be their last time taking family photos most likely.
Tips for getting good pictures
-When I am talking to your little one who isn't looking or paying attention, don't look at them. Continue to smile. What happens is I'm talking to them and I get them to look at me and smile, but you aren't looking at me! So, make sure to keep looking at me and smiling while I try to make them smile and get their attention.
-Moments over poses: we will do some posing, but I love doing activities such as a game where you are all interacting or capturing a moment like you hugging or snuggling together.
Before the session, fill out the questionnaire at the bottom of the page to help make your session a success. It helps me understand your family and is super helpful when preparing for your session! You can fill this out at any point.
